God of ruin by rina kent5/9/2023 ![]() OH AND SPOILER ALERT I HAVE MINOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT □ ![]() do i regret not dnf'ing? yes, but if i did dnf i wouldn't have read the 2 best chapters in the entire book so thank you xander (I'm just as shocked as you for liking his chapter but anyone that calls jeremy a lizard is a winner in my eyes) and zaddy adrian (so sorry you have a son like jeremy, he is truly a disgrace to the volkov name). Honestly, i don't even know where to start with this book except it took me 48 hours and a lot of encouragement from my friends to keep going. □ Wikipedia articles on the behaviours of serial killers □ the entire contents of the DSM-5 & my A-Level psychology text book ![]() □ read and take inspo from haunting adeline except jeremy is nothing but a wannabe stalker □ copy and paste killianglyn's entire relationship, from the forced blowjobs, to the dirty talk, to killian jeremy cooking food for glyndon cecily. ![]() □ copy and paste sebnaomi rape fantasy/chasing through a forest/fuck-fest scenes If i ran this book through turnitin we'd probably end up with a similarity score of 90%. ![]() I genuinely think this book was a social experiment on if she could get away with copy & pasting her own stuff and seeing if fans would eat it up and guess what miss kent sure proved her alternative hypothesis right. Rina kent really said #environmentalrights because she reduced, reused and recycled her old books to write this ♻️ ![]()

Quarantined by drethi anis5/8/2023 ![]() ![]() So, please don’t listen to this if any of the above bothers you. Milo isn’t a normal romance hero, and some might not consider him a hero at all. Patron saints of nothing book cover5/8/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Book reviews cover the content, themes and worldviews of fiction books. ![]() Jay flies to his family’s homeland to uncover the truth about Jun’s death. Lastly, inspired by the various depictions of activism in this book, some readers may feel compelled to action whether locally or globally, there are many just causes that one can support in a myriad of ways, from volunteering to donating to diffusion and awareness (c). In Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay, 17-year-old Jay learns that his cousin in the Philippines has been murdered. This was a powerful reminder that certain values that we take for granted are not universal, and that we should always respect the culture and beliefs of others, expressing not imposing our opinions until we have a deep understanding of the facts at hand. As one reads the book and related nonfictional materials, it jumps out that while the War on Drugs has caused much suffering, it is supported by much of the Filipino society and perceived as a necessary evil. The author offers a list of recommended reading that is a good research starting point for anyone interested in learning more about the issue. ![]() Like Jay in the story, I was barely aware of how the War on Drugs carried out by Rodrigo Duterte has ravaged the country. This book also opened my eyes to the plight of the Filipino people. ![]()

Lorenzo mattotti fires5/8/2023 ![]() The nearest thing that I can compare it to from my own reading experience is Bill Sienkiewicz from the 1980s, who was another artist that was prepared to do whatever was necessary with form and style in a given panel to best communicate the true meaning of that particular narrative moment. ![]() In this style, he employs beautiful pastel colorings of shapes and shadows, where form, even more so than in Stigmata, takes a backseat to deep psychic metaphor. This rawness was originally what drew me to his work, but as I looked deeper into his oeuvre (a process greatly aided by this three-hour podcast interview at Inkstuds) I noticed a completely separate style that he actually works in predominantly, the style that Mattotti employs here in The Crackle of the Frost and in earlier works such as Fires and Dr. When I first became acquainted with Mattotti it was through his book Stigmata, which is done in a super raw, scratchy style that exists almost in open revolt on the page. ![]()

Summon the keeper tanya huff5/8/2023 ![]() Second, have I ever lead you astray? Third, these are competence porn. The only exception is the final story, which takes place after the end of the series, and I'm not sure it would hit all of the right points for the newcomer to the series you'd be able to follow along, but you won't have the awwwwww feeling I got. The first couple are pre-series, and the rest are designed to be standalone, so that you can read them without having read the series. I don't think I've read any of them for whatever reason, the anthologies these were in never landed on my radar. This is a collection of mostly previously published short stories. I am addicted to this competence porn series, frequently re-read it, and was stunned to discover a new book had come out last fall and no one had told me about it! ![]() Might be time for a re-read and to post a full series review. ![]() Books 1&2 Books 3&4 huh, apparently I didn't review the others. For those who don't know about the Confederation series, check out my hyped up reviews. ![]()

Terminal boredom suzuki5/8/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() However, such themes are now commercially attractive and, more fundamentally, the context of reception has changed now. The overall themes are suggested by the title of the recent review of this edition in the New York Times: ‘Where Every Coupling Depends on Lies, and Men Are Aliens’. I suspect that any Anglosphere publishers who might have contemplated it found the complete lack of sentiment too bleak. While this period feel is not surprising given that the seven short stories collected here were first published in the 1970s and 1980s, it is a shock that it has taken over 35 years to translate the work of Izumi Suzuki (1949-1986) into English. Verso are best known for publishing fairly weighty tomes of left-wing politics, history and theory, but in September 2019 they launched Verso Fiction: ‘a new series of uncompromisingly intelligent and beautiful books with an international focus.’ Terminal Boredom ticks all these boxes but more importantly it has an authentic edgy feel to it that is a welcome reminder of the days when spikiness and attitude were not just marketing categories but a genuine challenge to post-war consumerist complacency. ![]()

Who got my cheese book5/8/2023 ![]() ![]() Who moved my Cheese? is an epitome of that expression. ![]() ![]() Our school principal once said, “ All good things are sweet and short”. ![]() Who moved my Cheese by Spencer Johnson book. That’s the reason I chose Who moved my Cheese? as one of the books of the challenge, even though I had read it before. After the first few weeks since my book reading challenge commenced, I was hit with a major setback in my life. And I have also passed on its wisdom to some of my friends who found it hard to deal with change themselves. I cherish this book like a treasure ever since tenth grade. Moving on has ever been a tough thing to do for me, but with this book by my side, I accept to change a lot more gently and sensibly. But once I finished reading this wonderful book, I realized why they say “books can transform lives”. Until that day, I read books for leisure. And that’s when my friend gifted me a book as a farewell present Who moved my Cheese? by Dr. It was hard for me to move on from the very haven that had nurtured me for thirteen long years. So, you could imagine the state I was in, on our farewell day. If you know me, you should how attached I am to my school, even to this day nine years after having left it. I received this book as a gift from a special person in my life. ![]() |
